I was so excited for the "Jazz for Juneteenth" event featuring The Harden Project that I actually showed up a day early! After 20 minutes in the lobby, watching toddlers with their parents stroll in from the beach and an unidentified man playing the piano, it dawned on me that Juneteenth was actually the following day.

The next afternoon, June 19th 2024, I hopped on the highway and headed down to the Betsy Hotel on Ocean Drive and 14th Street. Much to my delight, I found street-side parking directly in front of the hotel! Adjusting my mustard-colored beret, I began to walk over to the entrance. The air was light and lacked its usual humidity, which was a pleasant change.

As a gentleman exited the hotel, I could hear a sweet voice singing accompanied by a skillful piano. Inside, I found a diverse crowd of all ages, ethnicities, and walks of life. There were couples, teenagers, hotel guests, and curious passersby drawn in by the beautiful music.

Mrs. Harden’s stunning presence and captivating voice held us all in a trance for over four hours. With her chocolate skin, perfect teeth, and beautiful dimples, she was mesmerizing. Mr. Harden, with his long locks and strong presence, told a story through every keystroke on the piano. The way they played and sang together narrated an organic story of their love without them ever saying a word.

It was an unforgettable evening at the Betsy Hotel, celebrating Juneteenth with soulful jazz and the enchanting performances of The Harden Project.
